I came across this video on YouTube and it might be the most important antique motorcycle race film to surface. What we have here is the Marion Indiana 1919 200 mile road race... You'll see for the first time, Red Parkhurst, Ralph Hepburn, Otto Walker and others in full 24 fps modern movie speed... You'll see the Harley and Indian pits and watch racers cutting up for the camera...
It's ten minutes long... be prepared to watch it a few times...
WATCH THIS COOL VIDEO OF THE 1919 SHEEPSHEAD BAY BOARDTRACK RACE...
AT PRESENT, NO OTHER SURVIVING VIDEO OF A REAL BOARDTRACK RACE HAS SURVIVED...
THERE IS NO SOUND AS WAS THE CASE IN 1920'S MOVIES....
CAN YOU SPOT THE STARS OF THE DAY GOING ROUND THE TRACK ?
THOUGH IT IS TITLED "DAYTONA" THE TRACK IS BY SOME EXPERTS DETERMINATION TO BE SHEEPSHEAD BAY NY.
(The winner of the 10 mile race was Otto Walker, #7 riding a Harley, can you spot him on the track ?)
Here is my buddy Dave Fusiak starting his Harley 1916 eight valve boardtracker. The top end was manufactored by Fred Lange... Motor construction was done by Dave using all real Harley parts...
